TRANSPARENCY –THE BEST WAY OF FIGHTING CORRUPTION.

17 Aug

“WE ACTUALLY NEED LECTURES FROM THE WEST ON GOVERNANCE”
TRANSPARECYRecently the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in Kenya. Sincerely speaking I was really impressed with the way she delivered her speech on corruption especially in Kenya. She said what most of our leaders dread hearing and in as much as some leaders say that Kenya doesn’t want lectures from the West on governance I tend to differ because at this point and time we cannot say we have a real government.
Mrs. Hillary challenged the Kenya’s youth to utilize new media technologies to shine light on public corruption in the country. She continued her message by saying that it’s only Kenyans who can solve Kenya’s problems insisting that corruption is best fought through transparency. She also said that the Kenyan public can play a significant role in bringing the corruption to light.
She added that Sunlight is the best disinfectant and there is an opportunity for young people as well as the civil society to use modern technology to run corruption watches and reporting incidences. Citing the example of the ongoing protests in Iran. Mrs. Hillary encouraged the youth to use online social media tools in their battle to bring about government reform.
I think this is really good advice coming from the west and which none of our leaders will ever tell us so in a nut shell I would like the youth in Kenya to take up the good advice and take advantage of the technology. We really need that advice.

Just like a father will advice his child on how to use the pocket money wisely so does the government need advice on how to use the billions they are never tired of borrowing. How can you claim that you don’t need advice yet you are crying for help? The government has proven once more that it can not be relied upon.
